Community Involvement

Christchurch Food Bank

Operating since September 2011 it is now located in the Old Chapel at St Joseph's Church, 67 Purewell BH23 1EH. We are a partnership with Faithworks Wessex serving those people of Christchurch who find themselves in financial crisis and unable to buy food. Dry and tinned foods are donated by our member church communities, our schools, Rotary and Round Table clubs and several large retail stores.

A three day supply of food is issued upon the presentation of a voucher from any one of nearly 100 "referers" in the Christchurch area. The Food Bank is manned by volunteers from our Churches and several others who wish to help those in need.

The Christchurch Fellowship of Churches worked closely together with the Christchurch Borough Council in the planning of local Millenium celebrations and links have continued as the Christchurch Community Partnership has developed, churches and individuals participating in Parenting Courses, Debt Counselling, Town Centre Forum, Youth Outreach as well as help and support in local schools.

"The Christchurch Fellowship of Churches is making an important contribution to the development of the Christchurch Community Partnership. This is a Borough wide network organisation of individual volunteers and statutory and voluntary agencies dedicated to improving the economic, social and environmental well-being and quality of life of those people who live in, work in and visit Christchurch.

As well as the contribution of faith organisation members to several of the Action Groups guidance and support has been further increased by the presence of the Fellowship's Convenor, John Jones and the Rev. Sandra Prudom on the Partnership Steering Board.

In this way the Christchurch Fellowship of Churches and its neighbour Highcliffe Churches Together in the east of Christchurch, have been able to add spiritual care, an essential component of good health and well-being, to the vision of the Christchurch Community Partnership."
